Jim Brownold

Jim Brownold joined the outer fringes of “showbiz” in 1971 at WALL Radio in Middletown, New York. There he began in sales which he loathed with a passion. Discovering he could write funny ads and do character voices, they offered him the same money to do commercials. He thought for a nanosecond and accepted the offer. Then on to WRIF Detroit, and WPLJ New York – where he won numerous local and national commercial awards. In 1979 Jim discovered the First Amendment comedy/improv group, and fellow “newbie” Peter Spellos who became his comedy partner at WPLJ and in many live performances. Perhaps you were one of the oh-so-lucky who saw Peter and Jim in performance! You might also have seen Jim doing standup at the Improv, Stand Up NY, or Caroline’s. …Then again, if you were truly lucky, you did not. Like Peter, Jim also teaches improvisation – almost as well.

Recently you may have seen and heard her as Vampira in Ed Wood: The Musical at the HEAR Now Audio Festival in Kansas City, Mrs.McKee and Mrs. Michaelis in Cardinal Stage Company’s production of The Great Gatsby, Dr. Lanyon in Ivy Tech’s Production of Jekyll and Hyde, and The Creature in the live audio drama performance of Frankenstein produced by the Bloomington Writer’s Guild and the Monroe County Public Library.
